Aims

This course provides participants with the knowledge, skills and techniques necessary to use abrasive wheels correctly and safely, it also can include the changing and set-up of cutting and grinding discs on portable and static grinding machines and meet the requirements of current legislation.

Structure

The course is delivered in both working and study environments to accommodate both practical and theoretical content. The course also includes a written assessment. It is a one day practical course delivered within the Rosyth campus.

The following areas are covered:
- Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations
- British Standard Marking System
- Practical Instruction to Change Cutting/Grinding Discs
- Demonstration of Practical Skills.

Progression

Candidates can progress to Risk Assessment or general Health & Safety courses, as part of their professional development.

Entry Requirements

Knowledge of the operation of a range of grinding operations is desirable but not essential.
