Aims

This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to operate a Reach Truck. On completing the course, participants will be able to:
- Operate a Reach Truck safely
- Give due care in a confined situation to the load being handled
- Give due care to personnel and equipment in the vicinity.

Structure

The course is approved by the Road Transport Industry Training Board (RTITB). Training is undertaken within a working environment. The course is usually 2 days duration, dependant on identified or self declared areas of driving or operating weakness. The course will be assessed using both continuous assessment and a practical end test. Certification is awarded on the satisfactory completion of both.

Content

The following areas are covered:
- Pre-Operational Checks and General Use
- Laden and Unladen Unit Stability
- Loading and Unloading Pallets in Racking
- Loading, Unloading and Stacking Steel Pallet Cages
- Correct Park Procedures on Completion of Work.

Opportunities exist in the Retail and Distribution Industry for successful students to gain employment as a Reach Truck Operator.

Progression

Once this course is completed students may undertake further training in operating various other types of mobile plant equipment.

Entry Requirements

There is no requirement to provide evidence of qualification or skills, but participants must be over 18 years of age.
