6224-31 Level 3 NVQ Industrial Commercial Natural Gas Installation and Maintenance Appliances and Systems
Aims
This course will provide in-depth training in installing, commissioning, servicing and repairing industrial/commercial equipment. Students will gain excellent practical skills in our customised gas workshops. This NVQ Level 3 course is offered to candidates employed by a CORGI registered business.
Structure
This is a three year course programmed on a block release basis. Students will gain work experience with their employer and they will also be assessed in the college and the workplace to confirm knowledge and understanding within both theoretical and practical areas.

- Emergency Procedures and Unsafe Situations
- Installation of Domestic/Commercial Gas Meters
- Combustion
- Flues and Ventilation
- Gas Safety Regs
- Gas Safety Devices
- Basic Electricity
-Installation, Commissioning, Servicing and Repairing
Industrial/Commercial Equipment
-Strength Test / Tightness Test and Purging of Commercial
Pipe Work Relevant British Standard and IGE Documents.
The course incorporates fault diagnostic skills, pipe manipulation, electrical installation and fault finding skills.
It ensures students have the ability to work with a wide range of tools including power tools.
Health & Safety is ongoing throughout the course and this will include electrical and gas safety.
Career Opportunities
Supervisory role as a Quality Assurance Engineer, Managing Installation Teams, Managing Gas Safety or Sales. There are also career opportunities in training and assessment within this sector.
Progression
At a later stage students may wish to extend their skills into commercial catering. Five years after completion of their training, students will be required to undergo ACS training and assessment as part of their continuous professional development.
Entry Requirements
Minimum 4 Standard Grades 1 - 3, must include English, Mathematics or Applied Mechanics or Physics plus two other subjects. Other qualifications and experience will be considered.
