Working Safely (IOSH)
Aims
Everyone should have an understanding of the essentials of Health & Safety in the workplace. This is a one-day course which provides this to staff from any sector, with no supervisory or managerial responsibility.
Structure
The course is one day, based in a classroom environment. It can be carried out at any suitable location, at the College, or in the workplace. The course is delivered as presentations, discussion and group working, and is assessed in order to provide a nationally recognised qualification from IOSH.
Content
The programme comprises 5 modules plus written and practical assessments.
The modules include:
(1) Introducing Working Safely
(2) Defining Hazard and Risk
(3) Identifying common hazards
(4) Improving safety performance
(5) Protecting our environment
Career Opportunities
This course in itself does not open new career opportunities, but, if the participant discovers an interest and aptitude, it could lead to further studies which could lead to a future role with a Health & Safety responsibility.
Progression
Taken as part of their CPD, participants may wish to consider a career in Health & Safety and hence follow a route to gain their NEBOSH General Certificate.
Entry Requirements
An awareness of Health & Safety issues, and their company's Health & Safety procedures would be an advantage, but not essential.
