Environmental Management is now firmly established on the social, political and commercial agenda. ISO 14001:2004 provides industry with a useful model for managing and improving environmental management system. ISO 14001:2004 identifies the internal audit process as a tool in the maintenance and continual improvement of an environmental management system. Therefore, the aim of the Internal EMS Auditor training course is to provide staff, who intend to perform internal audits, with the skills needed to assess and report on the effective implementation and maintenance of an environmental management system; in accordance with ISO 19011:2002.
For organisations intending to register their environmental management systems against ISO 14001, this course exceeds the minimum auditor skills training required by ISO 19011 for internal auditors. Delegates are encouraged – but not expected – to have knowledge of environmental management systems ISO 14001, before attending this course.
This course references and uses ISO 14001:2004 as the management system standard that provides the context for the internal audit. However, it does not address the new ISO 14001 as such in great detail. If detailed knowledge of ISO 14001 is needed, we recommend that the ISO 14000 Series Foundation Training Workshop (which is based on IRCA 2171), or similar level or familiarisation is also attended.
By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:
It is ideal for people involved in EMS auditing activities within their organisations: i.e. staff designated to be the Internal EMS Auditors, or those who will be affected by EMS audits. Also, managers who want to know what to expect from an internal audit!
