Developing Leaders of the Future

Aims

Aims

The management of people really means the ability to create successful working teams at all levels of the organisation. Apart from operational tasks such as work allocation, this also means the ability to motivate, to develop the skills of your team and to encourage their involvement. Good leadership is crucial to this area of management.

This programme aims to identify and develop Leadership Behaviours associated with middle and senior management.

Structure

The programme consists of 4 sessions over 2 days. The nature of the sessions is highly interactive with total group, syndicate and individual activities undertaken throughout. A psychometric tool is used to assess current leadership profile and this is used as a basis for analysing case studies and an examination of a number of Leadership models. Further topics explore the various aspects of the leader's role and the knowledge and skills essential to fulfilling that role.

Session 1

A range of assessment tools and activities will be used to identify leadership characteristics and behaviours based on the latest research. The assessment tools will also examine `Emotional Intelligence'.

An overview of research on leadership will be provided (with in-depth support materials being provided); in particular `Transformational', `Visionary' and `Inspirational' models will be examined.

Session 2

Individual feedback will be provided from assessment tools followed by group exploration of leadership.

`Emotional Intelligence' and its link to leadership will be examined and a number of activities used to identify your current levels of Emotional Intelligence.

Session 3

This session will focus on Change Management Models (including an overview of 'Managing Successful Programmes' from Office of Government Commerce). Participants will then work on activities to develop a `Vision' and explore techniques to influence others towards its achievement.

Session 4

The final session will provide the opportunity to practice the key skills of Rapport Building, Questioning and Listening applying best practice taken from the fields of NLP and Emotional Intelligence.

Individual Action Plans will be initiated.

Post Course materials and activities will be provided.
